Some "patriots" tout their Alexa rankings but it's flawed

Here is why:

How important is a good Alexa ranking?

Basically an Alexa ranking is not important. Having a high or low Alexa ranking does not help a site one bit, unless you want to use it to impress people who are impressed by this sort of thing, but do not understand it.

Alexa has a toolbar that can be installed in web browsers. Alexa collects data on the sites that users of the toolbar visit to rank sites based on the traffic to them. They do combine this with some other data, that they have not specified, when they do give a rank to a site. Millions of users have the toolbar installed. A low Alexa ranking means that a site has more visitors from those with the toolbar installed. They do publish the rankings of sites.

The whole concept of an Alexa ranking is flawed because:

1. Even though a few million people may have the toolbar installed, (only a few million out of the BILLIONS who have computers) those who have the toolbar installed, are more likely to be technologically savvy and more likely to be webmasters interested in their Alexa ranking. This means that the sites that these people tend to visit are more likely to have a higher Alexa ranking.
2. The best way to improve an Alexa ranking is to install the toolbar and just visit your own site a few times a day (and even better if you can get a friend to do the same) and then watch the big improvement in the site’s Alexa ranking. Make sure you do not visit your competitors site, as just visiting them will improve their ranking! This makes a mockery of the Alexa rankings.

Some do like to claim that Alexa is more accurate for sites ranked in the top 1000, but even that is still biased by the technically savvy population that use the toolbar. Some claim it is a helpful way to keep an eye on competitors (but your competitors ranking may be very dependent on if they have the toolbar installed or not!). Some also claim that it is useful when trying to sell advertising on a site or sell a site as it gives the buyer some idea of traffic. But the only buyer that is going to be impressed with that are those that do not understand the Alexa ranking (eg the seller could have just have got a lot of friends to click on the site with the toolbar to improve the ranking just prior to the sale).

The Alexa ranking is what it is. It is just some entertainment for webmasters.

Paypal closing accounts that donated money to wikileaks

Fascism is alive and well in the United States of Amerika

Since when does PayPal and all the others become judge jury and executioners? No one has charged Wikileaks with any crimes of treason and no government has stated what they did was treason. All they did was expose the truth about how slimy the American government officials are and what they really think about the world.

For example the video I posted on this page about the Apache helicopter killing the Reuters reporters. Our government knew about that secret encrypted video and in no way wanted the world to see it, for fear the world would find out what America is really doing in Iraq. If Wikileaks saw that video and did NOT release it, what does that say about them? I say the corporations that are against any bad dirt being released are part of the problem, part of the whole fascist regime we have running the USA.

I go to log into my business account, and it’s locked. The girl on the phone told me it’s because my account handles a large amount of money (it’s a biz account), I recently sent a lot of money ($4000) overseas, and I also sent money to wikileaks. My account is being investigated for illegal activities and I have to account for what the money was used for. They want invoices and such.

I sweep my money out of there daily because paypal sucks balls, so I am only out $30. We sure are heading towards an orwellian future, real fucking fast.

I’ve been blacklisted as well. “This account has been permanently locked. All information associated with this account has been blocked from the PayPal system and cannot be registered with another account.”

—update2— I will record my conversation on monday, paypal has no support on the weekend. Billion dollar company with no weekend phone support.

AMAZING! Dutch police have such restraint!

This belgian woman is stopped by dutch police for traffic violations and makes a scene and they DO NOT TAZE her like American police would have. They don’t even handcuff her. And later when her angry boyfriend shows up, they still keep calm. I am impressed!

Maybe our coppers need to go over there and re-learn how to be PEACE officers instead of militarized thugs gathering revenue for the state!

911 did not stop an Indiana home invasion, three bullets did

HAMMOND IN, Nov 2007 – She was on the phone to the 911 system approx 5 minutes before shots fired. 5 minutes while this guy was breaking in to her home and looking for her! Not a cop in sight, only her firearm to protect her.

She was attacked by stalker Ryan Bergner. Prior to this he had slashed her tires, kicked at her door , accosted her at work, broken in to her house and stolen from her.  Six police complaints filed against him did not stop him. 911 did not stop him. Three bullets did.

Consumer Reports Cell-Service Ratings: AT&T is the Worst Carrier

I use AT&T and I must say, I agree.

AT&T is the lowest-scoring cell-phone carrier in the U.S., according to a satisfaction survey of 58,000 ConsumerReports.org readers. Of all the carriers rated, AT&T was the only one to drop significantly in overall satisfaction.

Over half of the survey respondents who used AT&T as a carrier owned some version of the iPhone, the Apple smart phone that is exclusive to AT&T, at least for now. Consumer Reports data, reflecting all versions of the phone, found that iPhone owners were much less satisfied with their carrier and rated data service (Web and e-mail) lower than owners of smart phones on other carriers that, like the iPhone, have a host of apps to encourage heavy data use

Are you kidding me DHS???? Go to www.peopleofwalmart.com and look at the freaks you are counting on to report suspicious activity. No one other than law enforcement is properly trained to know what’s really suspicious or not. (CNN) — Walmart will join the Department of Homeland Security in a program called “If You See Something, Say Something” which encourages the American public to take an active role in ensuring the safety and security of the nation, DHS said Monday. The public has already been doing that. It’s called “The 911 System”

“Homeland security starts with hometown security, and each of us plays a critical role in keeping our country and communities safe,” Secretary Janet Napolitano said as she thanked Walmart and the more than 320 stores who joined the national campaign Monday. Really? How about we call back all of our troops over in the Middle East “protecting” OTHER neighborhoods and have them protect our own borders here? There would be no need to worry about terrorists inside Wal-Mart if we were stopping them at the border!

Participating stores, eventually including 588 from 27 states, will play a short video message at select checkout locations to remind shoppers to contact local law enforcement to report suspicious activity, said a DHS statement.

“This partnership will help millions of shoppers across the nation identify and report indicators of terrorism, crime and other threats to law enforcement authorities,” Napolitano said.

The “If You See Something, Say Something” campaign was originally implemented by New York City’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority as a simple and effective program that engages the public and key front-line employees to report indicators of terrorism, crime and other threats to authorities, according to the DHS statement.

The program has already partnered with the Mall of America, the American Hotel & Lodging Association, Amtrak, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, sports and general aviation industries, and other organizations across the country, DHS said.

This is no different than Hitler’s “Brown Shirts” except in this case EVERYONE is a “Brown Shirt”. Just like in the movie 1984 where everyone even children were rats. Children reported on their parents!

Another Doctor (medical researcher) murder suicide

AVR host of Wake Up Well, Doc Mike always talks about these medical “professionals” killing themselves. Well here is one in Oregon who decided to take his wife out with him while her mother tries to save her from being shot.

Post-doctoral researcher Jeffrey Njus shot himself after killing his wife. He was employed with OHSU since July 2005. He worked at the Advanced Imaging Research Center and studied various ways to use MRI technology.

His most recent research focused on how MRI technology can be used to identify and characterize brain tumors and early signs of multiple sclerosis.

Njus has been on paid administrative leave due to psychological problems since June 16.

Mom tries, can’t save daughter in Tigard shooting

TIGARD — Police and friends of a woman who was killed by her husband before he fatally shot himself say the man was suffering from mental illness.

Jeffrey M. Njus, 34, fired two shots at his wife, Ilona Njus, 31, and struck her in the chest, before he shot himself, police said. They both died at the scene Tuesday night.

The couple were currently separated, and Ilona Njus was living at Arbor Heights Apartments in Tigard with the couple’s 2-year-old daughter, according to police and friends. Police say there was no history of domestic violence between them.

“A lot of times we get called on domestics and we know who the players are,” said Tigard police Lt. Erick Boothby. “This wasn’t the case. It’s a very sad, sad situation.”

Officers responded to the apartment complex at about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday after receiving a report of a disturbance with shots fired.

Ilona Njus’ mother, Kazimiera Mielcarek, 59, who was visiting her daughter from Poland, had left the living room to let the couple talk, Boothby said. A short time later, she heard the couple arguing and returned to the living room, and saw that Jeffrey Njus had a gun…

Cops: Cannot and Will Not Solve Most Major Crimes

One way of determining how effective police are at solving crimes is to look at clearance rates…

For its yearly Uniform Crime Reports, the FBI estimates the amount of crime in the US by totaling all crimes discovered by police and all crimes reported to the police by the public. The Bureau also records the number of arrests made by police which are then used to generate clearance rates for a number of different crimes. The FBI’s clearance rates for 2009 suggest that police failed to solve more than 30% of criminal homicides, nearly 60% of forcible rapes, more than 70% of robberies, more than 40% of aggravated assaults, and nearly 90% of burglaries and motor vehicle thefts.

In the graph below posted on copblock, the red represents reports of crime and the blue represents arrests.

This graphic is actually rather generous to law enforcement. Obviously not everyone the police arrest is actually guilty so it’s wrong to treat every arrest as a true clearance. Furthermore, since UCR data is based on reports of crime and many crimes go unreported, the FBI’s numbers tend to underestimate the actual amount of crime which leads to better clearance rates. Despite the fact that this data paints an unrealistically good picture of police performance, it makes it quite clear that police only manage to solve an abysmally small portion of violent crimes and property crimes.

LANDMARK TOWER implosion – Why didn't they just use a 747?

Notice how the blasts had to go in a certain sequence just exactly right to bring it down on itself. If jets like on 9/11/01 could easily bring down towers like this, why go through all the trouble and expense and months of preparations? Just get an old jet that’s ready for the scrap yard.
